Here’s a question I’m asking myself as a white person:
“What am I doing to dismantle a system of privilege that oppresses others while advantaging me every waking day from cradle to grave? What am I doing to help my brothers and sisters be free?“
On reflection I think not enough. It’s not enough to treat everyone with fairness and respect, although that’s a pretty good start. The problem is, the only way that’s going to actually change anyone’s behavior would be by serving as a role model, and I’m not kidding myself.
“Dismantle a system of privilege.” That sounds about right. I need to think about how I can contribute to that.
See, it’s no longer enough to be “a good person.” The system has somehow got to change.
I want to contribute.
I will contribute.
