I Fucked Up (Part 1)

Nothing major—no one was killed—more like an extra “is” somehow got into my most recent query. Sounds like nothing, right? Except when you’re querying a book you spent three years writing, and you realize your “minor” error will ensure a quick and decisive death for your work with that agent.

So let me take my own advice, the same advice I gave to every nurse I ever taught in the ER who thought that because they didn’t know something in a code, they somehow contributed to the patient’s death.

”Be kind to yourself,” I’d say after assuring them they were not in any way responsible for the patient dying. “Look up what you didn’t know before you go to bed tonight so you’ll know what to do next time, then take a moment to feel good about yourself. Not everyone has the strength to do this job.”
