Slowly, over decades, our society began to lose trust in institutions—then in Science itself. And this was BEFORE the advent of ChatGPT…
I’ve always prided myself in being able to vet legitimate sources of information, but with the advent of AI, this is becoming increasingly difficult to do. It’s now the norm for me to assume that anything I read that’s not attached to a known source is probably generated by AI under the dubious direction of bad actors.
It’s exhausting.
I don’t want to mistrust everything—I believe in science, and I believe in Democracy. I also believe there’s a duality to all humans; that we’re all capable of both good and bad, which unfortunately also means we’re all susceptible to bad ideas.
What effect is this having on our society? We’re watching it happen in real-time. And just as these technologies are ramping up, here in the U.S., we’re in an election year.
Let’s be kind to each other, strive to be responsible, and try to do the right thing. I won’t pretend to know what that is, but the kindness part is a good place to start.
